Bloodstone (also known as Heliotrope) is a variety of chalcedony coloured by iron and other mineral inclusions, which create its deep green base and characteristic red speckling. The red markings come from iron oxide and are completely natural. Each piece forms slowly within volcanic and sedimentary environments, resulting in unique patterns and markings in every stone.
