What is Blue Kyanite?

Kyanite is an aluminium silicate mineral that typically forms in long, blade-like crystals. Blue is its best-known colour, ranging from very pale silvery blue through to rich denim and deep sapphire-like shades. Even after polishing, you can still see the natural layers and fibrous-looking crystal structure running through these pieces.

One particularly interesting thing about Kyanite is that it has different hardness depending on the direction in which it is measured — an unusual property known as anisotropy.

Metaphysically, Blue Kyanite is traditionally associated with communication, clarity, intuition and calm. It is especially popular for encouraging honest self-expression and helping to bring a little order to a busy or muddled mind.

The polished freeform shape really shows off the natural direction and movement within the Kyanite, while still leaving each piece completely individual.

As Blue Kyanite naturally has a layered, bladed structure, you may see lines, grooves, small pits, fractures and uneven areas within the polished surface. These are part of the natural character of the mineral rather than faults.

Each piece will vary in shape, pattern and shades of blue.
