What is Petrified Wood?

Petrified Wood forms when ancient wood is buried by sediment and, under the right conditions, mineral-rich groundwater gradually deposits minerals into its structure. Over immense periods of time, the original organic material is replaced or filled by minerals — most commonly forms of silica such as chalcedony — while preserving much of the wood's original structure.

The result is something rather amazing: wood that has become stone, sometimes preserving growth patterns and other details from the original tree.

Metaphysically, Petrified Wood is traditionally associated with grounding, patience, stability and connection to the Earth. Considering its journey took millions of years, it's perhaps the ultimate crystal reminder that not everything needs to happen overnight!

It is often chosen when you want to slow things down, feel more settled and approach change with a steady head.

The smooth palm shape makes these lovely to hold during quiet moments, meditation or relaxation — or simply display and admire all those ancient natural patterns.
